Red Stone Castle
In the picturesque region of the Little Carpathians, near the village Casta is the medieval Red Stone Castle, whose origins date back to the 13th century.
Originally, it should be build on a nearby hill, but every night some unknown forces, fairies and giants transferred all the material to the point where today the castle is situated.
During the following centuries it was the property of two powerful aristocratic families; first it belonged to the Fugger and later to Pállfy family. Today the castle is open to the public and in the rooms you can admire the old period furniture. The route of a guided tour leads through twenty-four richly furnished rooms. The visitor walks through parlours, bedrooms, a dining room and a knight`s hall, where he/she can see the installment of contemporary interior furnishings of nobility since the Renaissance period until the Secession period. Become familiar with the life of the nobility in Hungary.
The big attraction is the cellar, one of the largest in Central Europe. The Fuggers originally stored copper in the basement, but the location of the castle in the Little Carpathian wine region will tell you what it was later used for.
If after your visit you will have the idea of having seen the castle before, maybe you are not mistaken; it is a popular backdrop for filmmakers.
